Slowly Slowly Swiftly Swiftly…

Hi there

Thanks for popping in. Rainy Sunday, so a perfect day for crafting. Pottery this morning. Made a start on the Totem Pole. This could take a while, but hey! Who’s in a rush?? You just need a little vision and a lot of patience…

Oh. And a ruler and pencil…

Remember the sketch? Well, this is the base piece.

That’s 6 hours so far. But who’s counting? It’s a good job I don’t have to make a living from pottery! It really matters not how long this project will take. I am in love with the process, and it takes as long as it takes.

This afternoon I started another project: a lino cut. You can easily see how it works…

Draw a design on tracing paper, then transfer it to the lino.

Add to it…

Start to outline cut.

Next, cut out the background, leaving the images. It helps to shade in the areas you want to leave.

Bit rough. I’m no expert! But I enjoy the process immensely.

Time to pull a print, and take a look at what we’ve got…

Use a brayer to apply ink to the lino printing plate.

Add paper and run it through the press…

Love it!

There’s a lot to still remove and improve, but I like the chatter – a little noise in the background – don’t you? That’s what gives this Swift Landscape that original, organic feel. Just want to tidy the lines, lighten up the sky a little, maybe add a little highlight or two in the swifts. Another hour or so of fine-tuning, but that can be done tomorrow, when the plate is clean and dry again.

All in all a very pleasant, productive Sunday. I hope yours was too.

Quote for the day?

Fall in love with the process, and the results will come.

Eric Thomas

See you in the SHAC tomorrow at 10am! Those vases we’re working on are coming together too.

Love always,
